Bbaby Freebies are for those who are tired of paying and paying. Freebies are for those who love the adventure of unexpectedly getting something free. Freebies are free sample products that many companies, small and big, offer. Why do companies want to (in point of fact need to) give away their product samples without taking a dime in return? Well, that’s their investment. They need to invest in their future. For the profit to be netted in the future, that is. What companies in general do is create a new habit pattern among their targeted consumers. And time comes when the consumers feel that they need these products even if they have to pay for them. This is catch. This is why many companies are so poised to give you their samples absolutely free.

No, you in truth are not. Freebies are free altogether. In fact, companies mean them to be free so that there builds up a demand for their upcoming products. Users who are given freebies are prone to grow used to them and sooner or later they may [/spin]decide|choose|come to a decision|conclude|determine|elect|fix on|make a decision|make your mind up|settle|settle on|work out[/spin] that the products that they are getting free are really worth their money. Learn To Use A Computer And Computer Reviews

November 9th, 2008

Nowadays, almost everyone, we cannot live without computers. Some of us really fanned to latest model from different manufacturer. We always surf online and search for either desktop computer or best notebook computer.

Well, you know one thing for sure that is going to happen. You can avoid it. Sometimes you may have problem with your computer. Then, you would rush the machine off to the repair specialist. Somehow, the cost of repairs may a bit high in accord to the cost of the computer, and yet you might not know what was actually done.

If you are willing, you can learn basic computer skills and become your own PC doctor. It is critical to know what is going on inside the box. With a good understanding of the hardware or the causes of software problems, you can be more anticipative of what need to be repaired.

To start with, a good and comprehensive source of technical knowledge is critical. You can always ask at your local computer outlet or friends that are willing to share. There is a fantastic book available called ‘Upgrading and Repairing PCs’ written by Scott Mueller. This book is easy and most easily understood on ‘how-to’ that I have found.

Next, you need to start a few projects in order to get ordinary with the hardware. The best way to your skills is to pull your PC completely apart, and then put it back together. If it works after resembling, then I would congratulate you for that. You may be thinking ‘Wait a minute, No way am I going to risk messing with my PC. It might cost me even more’.

Don’t worry, as a beginner, you definitely should not. However, you can get one old computers to be tear apart and rebuild. Old computers are seen as worthless, and you can try your Pentium 1 and 2 machines to do that, even though they are still in good working order. Or consider a Pentium 3 that can be bought very cheaply. Here is a good news for you. You will be surprised how many 486s and older are sitting in cartons in your friends and relatives’ garages and basements. I believe they are more than willing to give you their collection of computer junk.

Get ordinary with the different parts of the computer, and how they put together. Try to learn on recognizing different styles of processor chip, RAM, disk drives, ports and other components.
Even though the computer components themselves functioning at low voltages, you still have the mains strength voltage coming into the back of the computer. Always power off and unplug when you are working on the computer, and be aware of any signs of overheating or of burning smells. Enjoy the learning process. If you need further help, always search for computer help site for latest computer advancement.

Building Computers: Connecting the Case Wires

November 8th, 2008
The Easy Guide To Building Computers. This is a simple step by step guide On How To Build Your Own Computer.

Through most of my articles, I’ve tried to explain just how easy it is to build a computer. But there is one chore harder than the rest, and it’s one that most people don’t give a thought to, until they are confronted by it. This is connecting the case wires to the motherboard.

When you open up a new PC case, you’ll see a group of candy striped wires lying in the bottom. These are the wires that lead to the reset switch, the LEDs for the power and the hard drive, and that annoying little system speaker that beeps at you when you make an error.

These wires plug in to a grid of pins usually located at the lower front corner of the motherboard. The trouble is, which wire goes to which pin?

Some boards have the pins marked with extremely small print, that a middle-aged fellow like myself requires a magnifying glass to read. Abbreviations used can vary. For instance, the hard drive LED may be marked “HD”, or it may be marked “IDE”. Also note that many of the wires come in pairs, with a positive and a negative wire. They must be turned the right way if they are to work.

It is best to consult the motherboard’s manual, if you have one. Here can be found a diagram showing you exactly which pin is which, and if there are “dead” pins not used on that particular model.

This is particularly helpful in hooking up the speaker wires. The plug for it will span four pins, with the speaker wire on one side, and a 5V hot wire on the other. The grid will probably have one pin marked “5V”, but bear in mind there’s nothing to keep you from turning the plug backwards, so be careful.

What To Do When Your Hard Disk Drive Has Failed.

November 7th, 2008

Overview
Modern computer system hard drives can contain a enormous amount of data. So when the hard drive fails, and there are no recent backups available, data recovery is the only option available.

Introduction
A hard drive consists of a number of component parts. Each of which has its own failure modes.

1. Electronics
2. Mechanics
3. Firmware
4. Logical

Electronics
The electronics on a hard disk is the ‘brain’ of the hard drive and a single component failure will stop the drive from functioning correctly. Recovering data from hard disks with electronics failures requires highly skilled electronics engineers who are able to make temporary repairs in order to recover the data.
There are also electronic parts inside the hard drive that are necessary for the correct functionality of the hard drive and consists of the head pre-amplifier circuit.

Mechanical
The critical mechanical parts of a hard drive comprise of, the actuator arm, the motor and the platters. (There are other Mechanical parts, vibro-acoustic components, filters, VCM Magnets, etc, but these are less critical).

The majority of mechanical breakdowns involve the Head pre-amplifier. Whilst this is not exactly a mechanical failure, the way that the head pre-amp is attached to the head stack means that when it fails it involves the replacement of the entire head stack assembly.

The next biggest cause of failure is motor failure. This is a very significant problem and requires specialist equipment so that platter alignment is not lost when removing and replacing the motor. Main problems with motors are burnt out coils and seized bearings.

Firmware
The firmware area or System Area (SA) is a region on the hard drive that contains the manufacturer’s proprietary information such as

  • Zone Tables
  • Translator Tables
  • Head maps
  • Security Data
  • SMART Logs
  • Primary Defect Maps
  • Operational code
  • Grown Defect Maps

and many others

For a hard drive to function properly it is vital that the Firmware Zone is error free. Repairing the Firmware on a hard drive is a highly skilled job and requires specialist equipment. Making a mistake when modifying the information in the Firmware of a hard disk can render a drive useless.

Logical
Logical problems are where there is no physical problem with the hard drive and it is fully functional. Logical problems are where data has become inaccessible for some reason, for example, the user has deleted the files, the computer has come under virus attack. The skill set of the engineer requires an understanding of how the operating system that the data was stored on works. Also, knowledge of the structure of individual file types so that quality of files can be determined on a bulk and individual basis.

Data Recovery From Raid 5,

November 2nd, 2008

Retrieving Data from a Broken RAID 5 Array
RAID 5 requires a minimum of three drives. The data is stored in blocks on each drive. One complete block set is called a stripe. In some ways it is similar in configuration to RAID 0 however Unlike RAID 0 there is redundancy built in to RAID 5. Redundancy means that if one drive in an array stops working, then the data can be rebuilt from the working hard disks in the array. The redundancy is in the form of a parity block, using a three drive array as an example, redundancy for the first stripe would be calculated by taking each byte from each block from the first two drives, then XORing these values to give. It is this value that is stored in the parity block for the current stripe. So, when a hard disk in the array fails, the missing value can be calculated by XOR-ing the remaining two values. This does increase write times slightly as the parity needs to be rebuilt.

Rebuilding a RAID 5 Array After Failure
The issue for data recovery engineer is calculating the original order the drives were in, block size and parity rotation methodology.

There are many combinations and these are added to by the number of drives in the array. For example if you have a RAID array with 5 drives there are 120 combinations of drive order alone. Then there is the block size to take into account. These are not as complex to calculate, but can be any size from 2048 bytes upwards. However, the most common sizes are 32kb 64kb, 128kb and 256kb.

Once drive order is determined the next thing is to calculate the parity rotation. Because the parity stripe is ‘rotated’ this means that for each complete stripe, the parity block moves to the next drive in the sequence. As an Example, if you take 3 drives and number them 0,1 and 2 below is a diagram indicating where the data blocks are (shown as numerics) and the Parity block (P).

Drive 0: 1 3 P 7
Drive 1: 2 P 5 8
Drive 2: P 4 6 P

You can see that the first parity block is on drive 2. The next one is on drive 1 and last one is on drive 0. Then the sequence repeats itself until the end of the array.

This at first may appear quite simple, and in fact the above is the simplest RAID 5 there is.

here is another type of parity (Backward with continuous data)

Drive 0: 1 4 P 7 10
Drive 1: 2 P 5 8 P
Drive 2: P 3 6 P 9

Did you notice the difference? Blocks 3 and 4 (and 9 and 10)are . This is because once the first stripe is complete. The first data block of each stripe must go directly after the parity block so the drive reads the data as 0,1,2,0,1,2… So in this case block 3 is placed after the parity block on the second stripe. This improves read and write speeds so that the same hard disk is not read twice in succession. An error in determining the block[spin/] rotation selecting a company to recover your data, make sure they fully understand the functionality of your specific RAID controller. understanding of how data is stored on RAID arrays is vital if the data is to be recovered correctly. MjM Data Recovery Ltd have developed proprietary software that they use for RAID data recovery and have engineers that are able to recover from the most difficult of jobs. If another company has already announced that the data is unrecoverable, it is always worth sending it to another company for a second opinion. Most will not charge for a diagnosis or it will be a relatively small charge if the value of the data warrants the cost.
